Dorms
Dorm living is a popular option for University of Texas students, particularly incoming freshmen. Dorms can be divided into two basic categories: on-campus and off-campus:
On-Campus Dorms:
The University of Texas offers 14 residence halls to cater to a variety of interests, and on-campus living is a popular option for a large number of incoming freshmen. The majority of residence halls are coed, but there are two girls-only dorms (Kinsolving and Littlefield) as well as one boys-only dorm (Simkins). The largest dorm by far is Jester, which houses over 2,800 people each year across 14 floors.
On-Campus housing has several advantages, particularly for younger students. Students who live in on-campus dorms are more likely to graduate on time, tend to make higher grades, are uninhibited by parking and transportation issues on class days, and have access to a wealth of student resources close to home. The university offers an impressive array of programs for dorm residents, including free mentoring, residential figs, meal programs, computer labs, study lounges, laundry, markets, and fitness facilities.
On-Campus dorms are an excellent option for student housing at The University of Texas. Pricing is as follows:

Off-Campus Dorms
Off-Campus dorms have become increasingly popular among incoming UT students, particularly given the shortage of on-campus housing as a result of an increasing student population. The major off-campus dorms include The Castilian, University Towers, Dobie Center, Hardin House, Goodall-Wooten, and Scottish Rite Dormitory. Each offers housing close to UT at prices that begin at approximately the same price as on-campus housing and increase from there. Some of these dorms, including Scottish Rite and Hardin House, are girls only, but the majority are coed.
Off-Campus dorms are a great option for students who strive for independence and may want to divide their time more equally between on and off-campus activities. Private dorms tend to have fewer regulations regarding visiting hours and guests, which may appeal to night-owls and students who prefer a bit less structured environment. Private dorms come with meal plans just like on-campus dorms, and offer study areas, on-site management offices, and parking.
